A few weeks ago our water company came out in our neighborhood to lay new pipes. During this process I noticed when I turned the faucet on, the water was brown and muddy looking. I thought to myself, I will never drink this water again. Well, a few days later I found myself really thirsty. Therefore, I started drinking the water. I thought because the water did not apear dirty anymore, it was safe consume.
How many times have God showed you a dirty friend, family member, or a man you were dating? You’ve experienced pain, hurt, back stabbing, manipulation, lies, and unfaithfulness. Yet, you still allowed them back into your life, only to repeat the same cycle. Stop being deceived … the water is still dirty!
I’ve experienced this all too many times. Instead of heeding to the warning sign, I compromised. I knew God was removing the person out my life, however I still held on. I believe it was because I was needy. To add, I did not want to hurt anyone’s feelings. If only I had enough wisdom to realize they were only sent to destroy me.
I rationalized why I held on. I even told myself they would change. Also, I believed I had to hang in there and just LOVE them because that’s what the Bible teaches right? That is true, but wisdom will teach you how to love without compromising who you are and allowing that person to continue to hurt you. Never settle for a so called “good friend” or a “good man”. You deserve someone that is God sent. The Bible records that iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend (Proverbs 27:17).
Ask yourself: Are you a better person because of this relationship? Are you growing spiritually? Are you drained spiritually from the relationship? Pray and ask God for wisdom and discernment. Ask Him, what is the purpose of the relationship? Do it honor God?
Remember…don’t be so thirsty, that you’d drink ANYTHING.
Verse of meditation: 1 Corinthians 15:33 Do not be misled: Bad company corrupts good character.
